033: Men & Mom, Stand Your Ground

Aug 11, 2022

The beach has always been my “happy place” - the one location where I ponder life, have deep conversations with my three siblings, and play with my boys.

A few weeks ago, I stood knee-deep in the Atlantic Ocean and watched as the waves rolled toward me, heading to the beach. I was determined to maintain my balance (something I have always struggled with!)

I continued watching the waves and noticed the cadence with which they approached. I felt the sand shift under my feet, providing more stability.

I felt empowered.

I felt strong.

I felt connected.

I felt balanced.

I was still reflecting on that moment when today, a Facebook memory popped up from eight years ago. I was standing in the ocean with my boys. At the time, Ethan was 13, and Jared was 10.

The start of the school year may be just around the corner for you.

Or perhaps it has already started. Either way, I wish you

  • Strength - to stand your ground, advocating for what is best for your students.
  • Empowerment - knowing that you make a difference every day.
  • Connection - with colleagues and the young people you inspire.
  • Balance - to embrace the waves!
